You're Losing Money by Accepting the First Offer

Most developers make the same mistake: they reach the end of the process… and accept without negotiating.

And that's where they lose money.

Because often, a single well-crafted email can increase your compensation by thousands of dollars. I've seen cases of +10k, +20k… without changing companies, without interviewing again. Just by negotiating better.

Last week, Erick sent an email right after receiving his offer. He didn't ask for anything unreasonable; he simply knew how to position himself. Result: +15,000 USD in his annual compensation.

You can also negotiate when:

  • The offer doesn't meet your expectations
  • The range is below market
  • The total package doesn't reflect the value you bring
  • Or you simply want to optimize what you've already been given

The important thing to understand is this: when you reach the final stage, you've already been chosen.

The company has invested time, resources, and has eliminated other candidates. That's your greatest leverage.

And yet, many devs after preparing for weeks, passing live coding tests, solving complex system design, and knowing how to sell their profile…

…decide not to send a simple negotiation email.

It makes no sense.

Negotiation is not an extra. It's part of the process. And many times, it's the part that has the most impact on your final compensation.
