+$15,000 in negotiation. Same job. Different result.

This week, one of my students got +$15,000… just in the negotiation.

Same job. Same company. Same process. Different result.

He is a developer. Very good technically... but like most, he used to accept the first offer.

Not this time.

I was in processes with companies like Gong… and when the offer came, it wasn't bad. It was… normal. Most would have said yes. Not him.

We prepare a simple strategy:

  • Anchor higher than bid
  • Justify with impact (not with years of experience)
  • Maintain a calm and collaborative tone

He sent a single message. Clear. Straight. Sure.

24 hours later:+$15,000 over offer.

No more interviews. No other offers as pressure. Just knowing how to ask.

This is where most developers lose money. Not in the interview. Not in their skills. In the negotiation.

Save this:

  1. The first offer is almost never the best
  2. If you don't order, you lose money
  3. Companies expect you to negotiate
  4. Clarity > aggressiveness
  5. Trust is built

Same skills. Different strategy. That's the game.
