As We Progress Through the Ranks of Our Profession

As we progress through the ranks of our profession.

From junior engineer to technical leader, we constantly face the need to learn new skills, new technologies.

We even have to adapt our behavior for new teams, organizations, and challenges.

Here are 3 ways to leverage these learning opportunities:

1. Be honest with yourself about why you are avoiding the situation and ask yourself:
Are they genuine reasons or excuses you are making for yourself?

2. Use your strengths as a stepping stone:
If you fear speaking in front of a large group, start with a smaller group, on a topic you are 100% confident about, and move forward.

3. Make a commitment and dive in:
Set some goals for yourself, to raise at least one point in the next five meetings or to speak at a conference this year.

Commit to them and go for it.

Remember, learning requires stepping out of your comfort zone.

And since we work in technology, there will always be something new to learn.
